Emergency Rehabilitation Program
Preventing disability and addressing the needs of persons with disabilities through rehabilitation and social integration programs
The Emergency Rehabilitation Program (1984-1997) was developed and implemented with funding from the US government assistance program to Lebanon through the USAID and the Leahy War Victims Fund in response to overwhelming needs within the rehabilitation sector in Lebanon.
The components of the program were developed with the aim to: prevent disability and address the needs of persons with disabilities through rehabilitation and social integration programs; initiate and support to community-based rehabilitation programs; upgrade knowledge and understanding about mental health issues through the establishment of the “Resource Unit for the Mental Health of Children in Lebanon” and a comprehensive database about the sector; build capacities of native NGOs through the provision of equipment and professional training programs; as well as support to public awareness.
