First Steps Towards a Better Future

Rim Al-Jassem is a 3-year-old Syrian girl living in Donnieh. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP) due to natal hypoxia, which has left her with both a motor and a language delay. “My daughter’s disability has put so much pressure on us, especially because, in order to develop her skills, she needs many therapy sessions that we cannot afford due to our economic status.”
Rim was identified by The Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) program in Donnieh, implemented by WRF as part of the project “Filling Assistance Gaps in Basic Rehabilitation Services for Syrian Refugees with Disabilities and their Peers in Host Communities in Lebanon” in partnership with The Forum of the Handicapped Association, Tripoli (FOH). She was granted ten physical therapy sessions and through the assistance received from this Project, she was able to take her first steps, which greatly influenced both her well-being and the psychological state of the family.

It is worthy to note that the project from which Rim benefited is implemented by WRF within the context of a Cooperative Agreement awarded by the United States Department of State's Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration as a gift of the United States Government.
